| Every once in awhile I get in one of those inspired, can-do
moods. This is the second time in a week, what's going on?!
Today, I got up at 10am (this is an accomplishment on the weekend), ate
breakfast, updated my pics online, am writing in xanga (!), and am
going to MOMA and shopping.
Highlights and lowlights of the past few months starting w/ lowlights:
-Canadian houseguests from hell. One friend, two strangers,
staying at my house for 4 days, didn't appreciate Napa which i took the
day off from work to take them to (grr!)
-Training a guy at work who doesn't know how to do algebra and had major attitude to boot.
-Meeting guys that I hit it off with and then finding out they have
major hangups, my goal right now in life is to make it to a third date
with someone, anyone.
-My parents set me up w/ the son of this couple that they met on their
trip to Spain who lives in Colorado, it's comical but my first reaction
was omg,omg, omg.
-All my good friends (4 of them) from work are dropping off like flies
or rather leaving Merv for greener pastures...good for them, no lunch
buddies for me.
...and now for highlights:
-SF summer, when it's glorious it really makes me want to stay forever.
-LA and San Diego w/ my parents to see family
-VEGAS baby, my first time, w/ Maddie, Josephine, Mike, Cad, and Jenn. We had a blast and I discovered my inner gambler.
-learning to play poker, we have a monthly game w/ co-workers
-seeing old friends, Alex Chang and Grace, Cynthia, Vina, Robyn (from Toronto), Adam, and Alex Chen have all been to visit
-Going to the beach at Santa Cruz, I LOVE the ocean
-White-water rafting at the American River near Sacramento, what a rush.
-Getting promoted and realizing my 5 yr ago goal of becoming a buyer, I
now buy diamonds and am going to my first market in NY in Nov!!!
-Making new friends, Jenn Dinh moved here and we have been hanging out
with her and some of the guys from her building (aka 403) a lot.
-Coming home for Labor Day, I'm long overdue.

| So I figured it was time for my biannual update. It has been one year since I moved here this past week, can you believe?!
Starting with work, get that out of the way, my boss Phil left and went
to Old Navy, still talk to him at least once a week though, my buyer
Erika got promoted to another dept, so I got a new boss Jess who is
super nice and a new buyer Lara who is very cool. Josephine, my
fellow analyst, got promoted to buyer so I am now the senior analyst in
the dept. Lots of changes, but such is the hallmark of
retail! Tiffany, my partner in crime, came in June. I trained her
and we clicked from the beginning and are like BFF, bickering sisters
now. In fact for Halloween, we wanted to be an Oreo (she's black)
and a Twinkie. That didn't happen this year bc we went to diff
parties, but next year...
Last night, I went to this very random Halloween party in Oakland with
Jack (family friend) and his friends. It was in an office
building atrium and was very college, but lots of fun too. Check
out the pics for some fun costume ideas guys. So I was dancing
with this guy who btw was holding incense (his way of getting
around the no smoking law indoors in CA?), and I'm like "What are you?"
bc I couldn't tell, and he says "Just me...you're just you too
huh?" (I am in a little black "dress" and fishnets, ha.) and I'm
like "No, I'm Velma from Chicago (the movie)" and he responds,
"I'm Travis from Seattle." I turned around and walked away, but
it must have been much too obscure a reference bc no one at that party
knew who I was.
My parents came up for my bday in Sept. It was great to see them,
we took a little roadtrip through the redwoods in Nor Cal and to Oregon
and Crater Lake. The redwoods were kinda anticlimax. We
drove six miles on a gravel road then hiked a mile and a half, my
mother was in great pain, to see the tallest tree in the world.
When we got there, there was a sign saying 'The Tall Tree' but not 'The
Tallest Tree' and the sign didn't even point to a particular tree so we
weren't quite sure which one it was. Crater Lake, however, was
absolutely stunning. So blue, so still, so CLEAN, pristine.
The highlight of the season, the year I would venture to say actually,
was when Michelle and Maddie came to visit us. We had loads of
fun from the moment we were reunited at Norman P Mineta airport in San
Jose. Went to Napa, partied hearty at Dragon Bar, went to
Alcatraz (hungover, would not recommend), Marin Headlands, and
Berkeley. Boo WOOO!!!

Coming home Christmas Eve and staying through Jan 2. Really
looking forward to this long break, being a bum at home, and seeing
everybody who is anybody!

| Greetings from the Golden State! Lots has changed since I last updated in Jan...
The biggest change is that Cadenza, one of my best friends from
college, moved here from Texas at the end of April. We found a
new place in Emeryville, home of IKEA and Pixar, and just across the
Bay Bridge from San Francisco. It's been fun/challenging
decorating the place (it took two months for me to get the couch I
wanted), but it's slowly coming together. It's sooo great to have Cad
here, to have someone to come home to and share about your day
with...ok getting mushy, but really, we get along splendidly and we're
such a
team.
Another big change is that I was placed in my permanent position at
work. My new department is Hosiery/Bath & Body. I do
all the fun socks, gift items, fragrances, cosmetics, spa like
sets. It's been a lot of hard work, but I've learned so much
already, a completely different business than before. My boss is
really cool too, he's a gay Filipino guy who giggles like the Pillsbury
dough boy. And, last week, he sent the other analyst and me an
email with rhyming poem thanking us for all our late hours and
dedication, and said there was a something under our keyboards. I
lifted it to reveal a Starbucks card! So sweet. He calls
himself Philly Phenomenal.
Finally got around to organizing my pics and putting them online, so check 'em out. You're probably pictured: http://elin1.photosite.com
Ciao!
